Absences

If your child is absent from school please contact the school by telephone on the first day of absence. You may leave a message on the absence number 020 8699 8862. Please send a note when your child returns to school.

If your child is absent from school and the school has not been notified, the absence will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Unauthorised absences are counted as truancy by the Department for Education. The school is obliged to make a yearly return to the Department submitting information on unauthorised absences.

If your child is absent from school and the school has not been notified a letter will be sent to parents asking for an explanation for the absence.

Children should only be absent from school when they are ill or there has been an emergency in the family which prevents arrangements being made to take a young child to school.

Irregular patterns of attendance or punctuality with unsatisfactory explanation will be referred to the Education Welfare and Attendance Service staff who regularly monitor registers.

Parents are advised to make an appointment to see the Deputy Headteacher or the Headteacher if there is a family difficulty which makes attendance difficult at a particular time. All information is of course strictly confidential.

If your child has to leave school early a request must be made to the Headteacher either personally, by telephone to the school office or in writing. Children are not allowed to leave the school during the day without written authority from their parents. Parents collecting children during the day for appointments must report to the office where a member of staff will go to collect your child. Parents are not allowed to go directly to classrooms. Children may only be taken out of class early for medical appointments or in a family emergency.
