Aims of the Curriculum

The aims of the curriculum are:

• to ensure that the distinctive nature of the Catholic school underpins the whole curriculum

• to ensure that each child follows the Foundation Stage Curriculum in Nursery and Reception and the National Curriculum through Key Stage 1 and 2

• to ensure that each child is provided with a challenging, broad and balanced curriculum which meets their individual needs and enables them to reach their fullest potential in all areas

• to ensure that each child has access to each of the curriculum areas as outlined in the National Curriculum with particular emphasis on Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Computing. Other subjects taught are Art/Design, History, Geography, Physical Education, Music, Personal, Social and Health Education, and Italian, which is taught throughout Key Stage 2

• to ensure that the curriculum is planned in detail under the following headings: Knowledge, Skills, Concepts, Attitudes, Understanding

• to ensure that there is on-going assessment and evaluation throughout the child’s time in the School

• to ensure that the curriculum allows individuals to develop personal and social skills which will equip them for life

• to ensure that the curriculum takes into account cultural identity and awareness

• to ensure that each individual has full access to the curriculum regardless of gender, race, ability or social class.
